Random Firings in the Brain
- Throughout this Advent and Christmas season, my Sunday School class--Tapestry--has been exploring such things as our individual and collective traditions for these celebrations, the meaning of "the Christmas spirit" and so on. This morning we'll discuss Epiphany.
- In researching Epiphany, I was riding Google through the interconnected tubes of the Internet and discovered the blog of a Methodist minister in Bideford, Devon, United Kingdom. He preached a 2006 sermon on Epiphany, which I'll refer to as Tapestry explores the topic. This Rev. Martin had what promised to be a fine new Epiphany sermon planned for today as well, but he's having a kidney stone problem and didn't lead worship today. I've sent him well wishes, but I'm a complete stranger to him. And yet it's odd and interesting to have found his blog. He and I seem to have several things in common--we're about the same age; we've been married about the same length of time, we have sons about the same age; and so on.
- I've been reading a good bit over this Christmas break. This evening I just finished The Toughest Indian in the World, a great collection of short stories by Sherman Alexie. Every year I try to read one of two Christmas stories: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens or "The Dead" (from Dubliners) by James Joyce. This year I read both.
- On Saturday the 10th, I leave for Washington, DC, where I'll be one of the faculty leaders of the Washington Center's Presidential Inauguration Seminar (http://www.twc.edu/). I'll be in the city for 10 or 11 days, returning home on the 21st, the day after the Inauguration. It should be an interesting time, and I hope to be blogging regularly as it's happening.
It's now 6: 18 a.m. Shower time!

We will miss you at the 4 O'clock club. Dennis
Hope you get a nap this afternoon!
Should be an interesting time in Washington. With the things I've been reading lately, I sure hope everything stays calm through this inauguration. Please stay alert and know we'll be praying for you.
Dennis, I'm sorry to miss the first meeting of 2009. Mark, I'll be careful and watchful. (What have you been reading?)
How exciting it is that you will be present for this inauguration - I echo Mark's thoughts about your health and safety... I will be thinking about you and praying for you during your time away... Blessings to you, john
It will be a once in a lifetime experience for you Michael. Like with everything that is new and unknown, there is a certain amount of fear involved, but that is what makes life grand.
Enjoy, and will be waiting to read all your blogs about it, for seeing it through your eyes will be as close as I get to it.
They expect possible millions of people to be there...you tell me what could happen! Other than that, there are some ramblings of some major information to be leaked about the entire government that if true, could lead to a melt down....which of course, would not be the greatest thing in the world.
what info Mark?
Ruth...not to really get into this, but a once radio talk show host who is well known (to some of course!)says that he has received factual information that can be verified that will show the world the depth of corruption not only within our nation, but other nations too. If he does, and I assume this is for real, it will be devastating. If it's a hoax, I'm one that got duped by it!
It really doesn't matter one way or another, the Lord is our Saviour and we trust in Him, not man...but, that doesn't mean Michael shouldn't be aware of his surroundings while he is in Washington...or for that matter, for any of us wherever we are! I just think that a million plus people going to Washington for this incredible moment in history, we need to pray for all that will be a part of this, and ask for protection.
